If I could only give someone two sentences of [[§Career advice for under 30s]], "find and cultivate and double down on your edge" might be one of them. It's like with investing: if you want to get an outsize return, you need to understand your edge well enough that you can justifiably double down on it. If you double down on the wrong thing, you'll probably fall far short of your potential. But the same will happen if you fail to double down on anything much. You can generate an edge by cultivating a rare and valuable combination of skills and experience. This is sometimes called a "T-shaped" skillset. You can also get an edge by being exceptional on a single dimension.
