A couple weeks ago I bought the ~£200 [IKEA TROTTEN standing desk](https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/trotten-desk-sit-stand-white-s79429602/). You raise and lower the desk using a manual crank handle. The desk is much cheaper than desks that raise or lower with an electric motor, which usually sell for £400-£800. In the past my employer provided [Fully Jarvis standing desk](https://www.fully.com/en-eu/standing-desks/jarvis.html), which costs around £750. I used and loved my Jarvis for about a year. But my current take is that is was similarly good, overall, to the IKEA TROTTEN desk. Before purchase, I was worried that the friction of manual cranking would mean I raise and lower the desk less often than would with an electronic mechanism. Turns out this is not the case—I actually rather like turning the crank! It takes me around 20 seconds to go from sitting to standing height. One minor reservation: out of the box, they don't provide a way to mark the desk heights that fit you. I fixed this by putting a couple small stickers on the desk legs. At the time of writing, [Wirecutter](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-standing-desk/) has not reviewed the TROTTEN version of the IKEA standing desk. ![[Pasted image 20220714073707.png]]
