I am running a pop-up coworking retreat in Penne d'Agenais, France. It'll be open from November-December 2021, and probably again from mid-April until end June 2022. I've rented a large office space with good windows, 30 mile views to the south, basillica to the north. Big desks and cheap nice bedrooms are easily arranged for up to 4 people. Further accommodation and desk space is available in the former nunnery, a five minute walk away. The "beta test" of this retreat took place in summer 2021, largely by accident. It looked like [this](https://photos.app.goo.gl/RSSpJjMWXRastN3w7). Facilities include: - Swimming pool (unheated, closed in winter), swimmable river - Terrace and garden with long views - Kitchen - Daily meals from afeudou.fr (Tuesday - Friday, vegetarian option at least once/week). - Regular film club - Regular aperos... In the village centre (3 minute walk) you'll find: - Two cafes and four restaurants (two of which are very good) - A brewery and bar In neighbouring Saint-Silvestre-sur-Lot (3 minute drive / 20 minute downhill walk) you'll find: - Supermarket - Several cafes and bakeries - Pharmacy - The river (Le Lot) The nearest large town is Villeneuve-sur-Lot (15 minute drive), which has a notably great market and cafe/restaurant with terrasse looking out over the river. The Lot-et-Garonne area is excellent for walking, cycling, etc. The St Jacques de Compostelle pilgrims trail passes through the village—you can take lovely walks in along the plateau or by the river without needing to drive anywhere. Penne d'Agenais is a quiet village: during the low season, many homes are empty, and the cafes and restaurants have reduced opening hours (e.g. everything is closed on Monday, many places are open only a couple of days per week). If you're looking for a beautiful, quiet, place for a semi-monastic work retreat, this could be a great option. If you're looking for a buzzing place with smoothies and pub crawls, this won't work for you. You can get by without a car, but I recommend you hire one (300-500 euros / month) or enquire about borrowing mine. Costs: - Accommodation: - Daily/weekly stays: from 50 EUR / night. - Monthly stays: from 30 EUR / night. - 24/7 fixed desk: 60 EUR / week. - Car hire: 20-30 EUR / day. Recommended, but not necessary (groceries and all essential amenities within 20 minute walk). How to get there: - Agen to Penne d'Agenais: - Train (20 mins) - Bus/drive/taxi (45 mins) - Paris Montparnasse to Agen: train (3.5 hours) - London to Penne d'Agenais: - Train (~1 day, but can work most of the time) - London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord (2.5 hours). - Metro or taxi to Paris Montparnasse (20 mins). - Train to Agen (3.5 hours). - Train (20 mins) or bus/drive (45 mins) to Penne d'Agenais. - Fly - I've not looked into this much. Train from Toulouse airport or Bordeaux airport to Agen takes about 2 hours.
